April 18, 2020 Pastoral Check In
The Bible is a wondrously diverse book. The Holy Spirit inspired many different writers working in a variety of cultures, languages, and eras. Sometimes the same events are recorded from different perspectives.
1 and 2 Chronicles differ from the way Israel’s history is recorded in the books of Kings and Samuel. Precise chronology was not as important to the four gospel writers as was describing who Jesus and what he taught. Tomorrow’s sermon will compare one such example as we compare Jesus’ ascension in Mark 16 and Acts 1.
These differences are actually a strength, not a weakness, of the Bible. That many people seeing God at work in that many different times and places helps assure me that there is indeed transcendent truth in what they record.
