“Blessed are you who are poor” (Luke 6:20)
Luke’s retelling of the Beatitudes in Luke 6:20-26 differs slightly from Matthew’s version of the Sermon on the Mount. Luke is much more explicit in showing Jesus’ concern for those on the margins of society.
This is an important reminder for American Christians. On a global scale are one of the richest societies the world has ever seen. This means that we have an extra responsibility to live out our discipleship in ways that reflect Christ’s concern for the poor, hungry, and outcast.
