FCC (DOC)’s Worship Plans for March 15, 2020

At this month’s meeting the First Christian Church’s elders discussed our corona virus response. The situation has been very fluid in the past days, with COVID-19 being confirmed here in Missouri and some Dexter nursing homes being closed to visitors. My Air Force unit’s drill weekend was suspended and many other events and activities have been affected.

We have already planned alterations to next Sunday’s worship service to make it more health conscious. Tomorrow morning I will be talking with our congregation’s leadership and send out a letter and video with the details of our preparations. This situation will continue to evolve. Plans we make today may be altered tomorrow due to updated information. We will be taking our cues from the CDC and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Continue to keep the people affected by this crisis in your prayers. Families and individuals all around the world are impacted. Some are grieving. Some are isolated. Some are uncertain of their future. Health care workers are bearing the brunt of the danger. Leaders are tasked with making difficult decisions. Parents, teachers, and caregivers are going to be struggling with how to handle students unable to return to school. People everywhere are going to face financial and emotional challenges due to the disruptions to business and the economy.

Also, please remember this is a moment for care and compassion. That seemingly cute meme you saw about cheap cruises or toilet paper shortages may be a little less funny to some who has lost a grandparent or is cut off from those they love by quarantine or travel bans.

In the end, we need to take this situation seriously, but calmly. Panic helps no one. Look for reliable sources of information, not the latest gossip on social media. Thank you all for your prayers, patience, and flexibility, both within the church and in the community of Dexter as a whole. We will continue to work together and will make it through this together.
