“The seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 5:12-15)

American society often makes an idol of productivity and busyness. The idea of sabbath is vital for a culture like ours. We can rest because God’s provision is enough. Because of God’s grace we have enough and we are enough.

Deuteronomy 5:12-15 reminds us that sabbath is God’s gift, not only to us, but to all those around us. When the people were slaves in Egypt, they had no rest. God freed them from bondage. They were called to offer that liberation to those around them.
