Answer this: What does it mean that Jesus is the Christ?
On Easter Sunday our baptismal students answered this exact question. This Sunday Terryl Alman will help us understand the implications of following the one who we proclaim to be God’s Messiah.
Scripture
“‘What about you?’ Jesus asked them. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!'” (Matthew 16:15-16)
Second Sweet Truth
Christ means, “God’s special, promised Person sent to begin, continue and strengthen God’s Kingdom–especially in people’s hearts and minds.” “Christ” and “Messiah” mean the same thing.
Since long, long ago, God promised to send Christ to bring people back to God and one another. When we believe in Jesus Christ and trust in him, God’s Kingdom is at work inside our minds and hearts. Then, from our words, hands, and helpfulness, the Kingdom goes out to others too.
Sometimes, we call the Kingdom “God’s ‘Rule’ or ‘Reign.'” People everywhere who love God and want to please the Lord are members of the Kingdom of Heaven.
