“You are the man!” (2 Samuel 12:1-13)
On August 4, 2024, I was invited to preach for the first time since my wife and I arrived in Columbia. Rev. Rick Oberle, the pastor of my new home congregation, Columbia United Church of Christ, was away for two weeks. One week I preached, and the next week I served as liturgist. Being back in the pulpit was exciting endeavor and I am grateful for the welcome I received.
The sermon text was 2 Samuel 12:1-13. I focused on Nathan’s confrontation with David following the king’s adultery with Bathsheba. I asked the congregation to look at the places in our own lives where we need to be confronted on our unfaithful behavior, as well as asking us to be brave enough to confront the injustice we encounter in the world today.
