“You will deny me three times.” (John 13:38)
In yesterday’s story from John Jesus predicted Judas’ betrayal. It is easy for us to make bold predictions and proclaim that we would never fail Christ in the same way.
That is precisely what one of Jesus’ closest followers did in John 13:31-38. Peter was overconfident and said that he would follow the Son of God even if it cost him his own life. Sadly, Jesus said that he would deny him three times before the night was over.
Today we give thanks for the caution against overconfidence and the reminder of how easy it is to falter in our faith. We ask for continued perseverance in our Christian walk and praise Jesus for his faithfulness toward us.
